121 overall taught me what?

Academic Text, Professional Text and Public Text are three forms of text I was taught how to properly identify and analyze after taking this course. Usually reading text assigned by an instructor reading it is basically the most you do if that. However I can say that in this course not only did I read the text but I can identify the genre of the text and analyze it.

Through this course, there were a wide range of opportunity experienced. I say this because we are able to write our own academic text, to composing blog post to utilizing twitter post for bettering our education. I will not lie, starting this course I wondered how so many elements would be connected to a course I thought was all about writing papers and creating an understanding of how to use rhetoric. But the tweeting, blogging and CSW are wonderful contributions to the course.

This is also important because if we are able to utilize these elements in the academic process, education possibilities will only grow significantly.

CSW

At Eastern Michigan University there is a experience called the Celebration of Student Writing. Here we have students in a higher freshman level English students (English 121 ) the opportunity to present there work for the semester to students in English 120. Going to CSW was extremely scary to me seriously.







My project being about a unfamiliar topic like Traumatic Brain Injury with football player, I believed that it would be hard to get a crowd or even anyone to listen to me. However my presentation was successful in my opinion, even though all of my audience was male I was extremely happy that people asked questions and enjoyed my Prezi. I observed the project that had larger visual aid's and I was happy to see that they were used effectively.


Hearing about the CSW I admit I didn't take it particularly serious, I understood and only cared about my own project. However seeing everyone else's I was able to understand the true goal of the CSW. And I feel that this should be done by other universities simply because it allows you to see the hard work that peers in other classes went through this semester.
